Polar Bears – Mainly found within the Arctic Circle and surrounding landmasses. It’s the world’s largest carnivore and also the largest bear.
Kilimanjaro – It has 3 volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. It’s the highest mountain in Africa and the highest freestanding mountain in the world. It is found in Tanzania.
The Drakensberg – Zulu translation: “Barrier of Spears” Afrikaans translation: “Dragon Mountains”. Besides its natural beauty, you will find San and Bushmen paintings that inhabited the area over a 10 000 years ago. It is found in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa.
The Alps – Comes from the Sanskirt language and means “The House of Snow”. They form the barrier which separates northern India from Tibet. Found in France, Northern Italy and mainly in Switzerland.
The Rockies – A well-named group of jagged, snow-capped peaks. It extends over 3000 miles and is about 1000 miles wide in some areas. It is found northern New Mexico and extends as far as north as Alaska.
The Pyrenees – Glacier fields are found on the northern slopes and minerals such as silver, lead and iron. It’s also famous for the Tour De France. They extend from the Bay of Biscay to the Mediterranean Sea.
Walking and Trekking Adventure
There is walking and trekking trails for the following Mountains: Mount Everest (Base Camp), Mount Kilimanjaro, Macho Picchu and Mont Blanc.
There are trails in Namibia, Otter trail in Knysna (South Africa), Pays Dogon (Mali), Overland Track (Australia), The Haute Route (France, Switzerland) and the most famous walk, The Camino de Santiago.
